During the year 2012, 100 Livestock Development Centers were established in 26 districts as per MoU with Uttar Pradesh Bhumi Sudhar Nigam (UPBSN), a leading implementing Govt. agency for the UP Sodic Lands Reclamation III Project (UPSLR-III) with the financial assistance from the World Bank . The objective was to improve livelihood of farmers through breed improvement of dairy animals in project area. Thus, a sustainable system of breed improvement for milch cattle & buffalos was developed for effective delivery of artificial insemination services .
The project period was for four years till Dec 2015. However, looking at the benefits of the project, it was further extended till Nov 2018. A corpus fund is being created which will help to continue operation of centers during post project period. During the year 2019-20, 111925 AI were performed, 52633 animals conceived and 47859 calves were born. Work ratio in cattle is to buffalo is 39:61.
