512 livestock centers were established in 56 districts under the Swarn Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY ) Govt. of India scheme. The objective of the project was to improve the Cattle and Buffalo breed to produce superior quality animals using modern technologies having potential to produce 2500-3000 liter milk per lactation. Financial support was provided through DRDAs.
SGSY scheme was closed in March 2014 and since then efforts have been taken to operate these centers on self sustained mode with contribution from farmers for service provided. During the year 2019-20, AI performed through these centres were 639924, 300722 animals were conceived and 253689 calves were born. Proportion of AI ratio in cattle and buffalo is 45: 55.
